英语论文写作一直都是中国留学生的一块心病,很多学生都觉得明明花了很多时间和精力在上面,为什么成绩总是不尽如人意?
The quality of the text, its presentation, style, structure, and layout will either detract from or enhance the contents of your dissertation, and therefore affect the assessment.
ertation must be based on the following.
• Clearly defined aim, or aims, and objectives
• Contents that demonstrate your understanding of the academic context by discussing and critically analysing the relevant literature and/or data
• An appropriate written style which promotes clarity and avoids ambiguity Writing up the dissertation
The process of writing up should actually begin with making accurate and comprehensive notes as you read. It is helpful to split the time from beginning the dissertation to completing it into three main periods. In the first period the emphasis should be on gathering information and making accurate notes. In the second period the emphasis should be on starting to draft out particular sections whilst at the same time continuing to collect information and making accurate notes on it. In the third period the emphasis should be on bringing together the information you have found and synthesizing from its analysis the conclusions you reach, completing the introductory chapter, and drafting and redrafting and editing the dissertation.
The following is an overview of the main stages in the writing up process.
The initial steps of the writing up process
• Collect together all the relevant material gathered to date.
• Make an Outline structure for the dissertation which reflects the aim, or the aims, and objectives.
• Work out where each piece of information might best fit within this structure – this can be done by looking at possible chapter titles and listing as bullet points what might go in each chapter – Microsoft Word’s Outline is a good facility for doing this.
• Review the structure in terms of order - discussions with your supervisor, at an early stage, as to the appropriateness of the structure can be very useful.
• Start to make decisions as to what should be included and what can be omitted. The first draft
• This should be word-processed - this allows sections of text to be moved around if the
initial structure requires to be changed.
• Set out the draft with 1.5 spacing (to allow room for written comments and changes).
• Expand on the points within your draft structure - develop themes.
• Remember to give reasons to back up any opinions given or arguments set out.
• Use a layout that is simple, clear and concise.
• Use simple uncomplicated language and short sentences; note that each paragraph should focus on one main point or two related points.
• Avoid using several words where one would do.
• Consider how headings, subheadings and paragraph or section numbers are to be used to present the material as clearly as possible. Too many subsections with different numbering will make the layout messy and will confuse the reader.
• Remember that if a particular section is difficult to write or information is missing, it can be left until later.
Amending the draft
• Leave time between preparing the first draft and making corrections to allow for reflection and to enable you to adopt a fresh approach.
• Refer back to the original the aim and objectives and check that the contents reflect these.
• Work systematically through the draft, looking for the following.
o Parts which are not clear
o Parts which cou
